Why Robocop rescued Sting on a WCW PPV

When you ask anyone what they recall from Capital Combat ‘90, it’s highly likely that the only thing they remember is Robocop - and this moment in particular:
Poor Gordon Solie and Jim Ross having to hype this on commentary, and Sid Vicious, Arn and Ole Anderson having to sell for a half-man, half-robot.
JR joked Robocop was “probably more athletic than El Gigante” (who also made his debut on this PPV.)
And I admit I did laugh hearing Ole Anderson threaten to turn Robocop “into a bucket of bolts”!
To Jim, this stunt overshadowed what was a card full of top stars and forced the plans for some of those bouts to be changed for the worse - as I’ll explain.
But why was Robocop on a WCW PPV and what was the wrestlers’ reactions to this?
And why we are overlooking some terrible movie tie-ins from the WWF and WWE too?
