This Week of #OnThisDayInWWE, 8-15 January
Near lost memories (and some that others would like to forget...)
Sunday
A quarter of a century ago, Ted Turner introduced Thunder, against Eric Bischoff’s wishes - a mega three hour show, totalling nine hours of WCW programming, but with no budget for Eric to bring extra talent in to fill it…
Luckily, Eric had some emerging homegrown talent in Goldberg - I think this is a break-through moment for Bill, where he went from generic wrestler to something special.

I’m saying that The Brain invented The Streak.
Tony Schiavone didn’t look back on the show fondly.
Monday
It seems we will never get Superstars of Wrestling on the Network or Peacock because of a trademark row, which is a shame as we have to rely on iconic moments - that are forgotten in the sands of time - to be uploaded by fans.

Tuesday
Same with this match (although more knowledgable fans tell me there were Rockers v Fabulous Rougeaus Iron Man matches in the same venue a few years before):

Wednesday
A milestone in wrestling history - the debut of Monday Night Raw, 30 years ago. This was my most favourite part:

Especially when you recount the horrors of Rob Bartlett…
Fascinating to see a Raw ticket stub from the show:

Thursday
Still can’t believe Jerry Lawler said this, especially after what he went through a few years earlier…

Friday
I’ve been singing this far too much.

I also loved this back and forth between Bischoff and Mean Gene, who didn;t have fond memories of Nitro….
Saturday
Again, another show not on official WWE channels - but not surprising, given this clip!

Things I enjoyed this week
Nothing like see wrestling live - been over 6 months for me. Enjoyed getting up close and personal to Lord Gideon Grey (a fabulous heel).
Nice to see a former WCW wrestler looking happy and well.

A reminder of being nice on social media.
Lots of bad takes about the goings-on at WWE last week, but Fightful was a level above everyone else in their reporting - enjoyed the livestream chats between Sean Ross Sapp and Jimmy Van and learnt a lot.

RJ City revitalising promo interviews. A joy.

Was flattered for him to call my account a “wonderful Twitter resource” - more an amateur attempt, thrown together, than anything else, tbh…
And this was a lovely, moving listen - how could you not love Don West?
