How Ricky Steamboat nearly died after this Nexus attack on WWE Legends, #OnThisDayInWWE15 years ago
The Dragon almost died from a bleed to the brain - a situation WWE were very coy about
The Nexus were on a rampage throughout the WWE in June 2010.
They had already taken out John Cena & CM Punk, Bret Hart, and even Vince McMahon.
On this Raw, #OnThisDayInWWE 15 years ago, the new Anonymous Raw GM (sorry to remind of you that) had warned the group of former NXT rookies not to attack any other member of the roster or they’d be fired - and any wrestler who initiates contact with them
Of course John Cena couldn’t help but keep the jokes up even after this announcement…
Later, a group of WWE Legends gathered in the ring to celebrate the new Ricky ‘The Dragon’ Steamboat three disc DVD.
And as they’re not technically WWE Superstars, they were fair game to the Nexus.
The last vet standing was Steamboat…
But in the beatdown, the 57 year old Steamboat suffered a bleed to the brain - and, looking back now, you can tell by how his hands are at strange angles that something is not right.
Steamboat would be in intensive care for almost three weeks, with his life in the balance and unable to even recognise his own brother by his bedside.
I explain how the injury really happened, how it led to him and his wife divorcing, and why the WWE were so secretive about what was really going on.
